Humbug Hoedown June 25-29, 2008
Join Access Adventure/Anywhere Wild! for our return trip to the Humbug Valley, near Chester,
in Plumas County. It is a beautiful valley not far from Lassen Volcanic National Park and a short
drive to Lake Almanor. The valley offers the possibility for scenic loop carriage drives. Grayson
Sorrels has laid the groundwork for our stay and we anticipate having a great time! Check out
the Visitors Guide!
Camping will be at the Yellow Creek Campground, with Camp Host Bev Oogle to welcome us.
Bev is a local historian, and participated in writing a book about Ishi, the Native American found
in the early 1900’s near Oroville. She has offered to give “fireside chats” about the history of the
Humbug Valley and Ishi. Perhaps Bev can tell us why it is called the Humbug Valley. The
campground has wheelchair accessible facilities, a running creek for watering the horses, picnic
tables and beautiful campsites. The campsites are large enough for small RVs, although there are
no RV hook-ups. Cost per night is $16/campsite. We need to reserve campsites so please email
info@access-adventure.org to RSVP and we’ll make the call – deadline is June 7th.

We will share meal preparation responsibilities for breakfast, packable lunch, and dinner. Once
you sign on for the trip you will be asked to select which meal(s) you will prepare. This worked
out very well for the Wildflower Wingding. Please bring your own drinks. The Access
Adventure barbeque will be available for cooking. Chester and Lake Almanor are nearby and
have motel rooms, grocery stores, and restaurants. Grayson has offered his home for showers.
