Anywhere Wild! Fort Hunter Liggett
Our first Anywhere Wild! adventure took place in the Los Padres National Forest, May 3-6, 2006. We traveled
through Fort Hunter Liggett, once the vast estate of William Randolph Hearst to our campsite in the oak woodland beneath
towering rock formations. Wildlife abounds in this hidden, unchanged part of Old California and we had exciting encounters
with a mountain lion and a bobcat. Some of us camped, others enjoyed staying at the historic Hacienda, which was Hearst’s
hunting lodge. A side-trip was taken to the historic San Antonio de Padua Mission located a short distance from the lodge.
If you are interested in joining the Wildflower adventure this year, please call Michael at 707-432-0150 ext. 209
or email accessadventure_michaelmuir@yahoo.com. You will be provided with cell phone numbers of other participants so you can keep
in touch. No "lost" adventurers on our trips!
Reservations at the Hacienda are obtained by calling 831-386-2900. Rooms last year were $30/night with suites
available for $125/night. Additional lodging is available in King City, approximately 25 miles from Ft. Hunter Liggett.
The Hacienda also has a nice sit-down restaurant and outdoor patio and a lounge. Prices are reasonable. Campsites are
large enough for RVs and large trailers. Amenities at the campsites are varied (no RV hook-ups).
Please bring your own food and drinks. Fire pits are available for cooking and one of our crew has an
RV and can share their stove, if necessary.
Mapquest.com is a convenient way for you to plan your trip. If you specify Ft. Hunter Liggett as your
