HorseJourney Promoting Horse Sports Around the World.
HorseJourney is going global. After driving wheelchair accessible horsedrawn carriages more than three
thousand miles across the USA in 2001, the HorseJourney Team has visited seven countries. In 2007, HorseJourney heads
Down Under for the first time, visiting New Zealand in May and June, then on to Australia in December 2007 and January
2008.
The mission is to expand the
opportunities for outdoor recreation with horses throughout the world.
We use the Access Adventure model to promote wilderness and open space access for people living with the challenges of
disability. The HorseJourney Team networks with experienced local carriage drivers that have suitable horses for the work.
We provide connections and plans for suitable, wheelchair accessible horsedrawn vehicles. Organizing the volunteers, with
the support of local carriage driving clubs, provides fun, access to nature and much needed recreation for people who might
not otherwise enjoy life outdoors.
Following New Zealand and Australia, long range plans call for HorseJourney treks in South America and
Africa. (Margaret Mead said, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world;
indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.")
